The Kentucky Derby is this Saturday. We are not big horse racing fans, but I love any excuse to whip up some Derby themed food!! This Kentucky Hot Brown Quiche is a twist on the famous Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich served at the Brown Hotel in Louisville. In case you aren't familiar with the Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich, it is a open-faced turkey sandwich topped with mornay sauce, bacon and tomatoes. This quiche has all the same flavors as the sandwich but in quiche form. I didn't make a mornay sauce for the quiche; I just used some Swiss cheese instead.
This Kentucky Hot Brown Quiche can be made in advance and frozen baked or unbaked. I usually freeze my quiches unbaked, thaw and then bake them. But it will also work just fine baking it, thawing and reheating.
This Kentucky Hot Brown Quiche is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We've eaten it for each of those and it is always a hit. This would be great for your Derby watching party on Saturday!! All you need is a Mint Julep and some Kentucky Pie to finish off your party!
